This Is Us

I didn’t pick that title trying to be cheesy, or just because I love the show (even though the show is amazing and for some reason Jordan won’t watch it with me).

I picked that title because I think that every family is incredibly unique.  Every family has such a different dynamic – and when you put that unique story behind a business, it can be a pretty cool story.

With that – here’s our story.

Jordan (my husband), is the main one behind The Porch Swing Store.  He sells cars by day, and every other waking minute he’s in entrepreneur mode.  He’s the owner of The Porch Swing Store.  He’s also the owner of Consultants-In-a-Box, where he’s a software consultant for other small businesses.  He is incredibly passionate about everything he does, and anyone that knows him will tell you that he’s like the Energizer Bunny when it comes to business ideas – the ideas literally never stop.

I’m Alicia – the wife, the mom, the analytical, detailed one.  I’m a Product Owner for a software company, which basically means that I design software.  I’m a weird mix between being an old lady and an adrenaline junkie when it comes to what I like to do.  I love to cook and sew and watch Wheel of Fortune, and I also love to snowboard and skydive and do things I’ve never done before.  I’m the one that you’ll be hearing from in our blog going forward.

We have 2 kiddos (ages 4 and 6) and a 3^rd on the way, due in June!  I could be all cliché and say that our kids are what we live for and blah blah… but then they do things like wake us up at the butt crack of dawn on the weekends.  But seriously, they are cool kids.  We love them and they are pretty amazing little humans.

We also have a cat.  His name is Harold.  He’s a cool cat. He likes it when we meow back at him as if we’re having a conversation.  He also likes to think that he’s dying when his food bowl isn’t as full as he’d prefer.

What does that have to do with The Porch Swing Store?

A lot, actually.  When you buy from a big box store or Amazon… yeah you get your stuff.  But your purchase is a number.  It’s a statistic.  At the end of the day, it’s just like every other order they got.  If you have a question, it’ll go into their queue of questions for somebody to answer.

When you buy from The Porch Swing Store, we get notifications on our phones that an order came in, and a lot of times we talk about it at night that “Did you see what that person got? It’s a really cool swing!” or “We got an order from California today!”.  It’s also a pretty cool pick-me-up in the middle of a work day.

When you have a question on an order, you’re going to talk to Jordan.  Every time.  He’s going to pace around the house when you talk to him because that’s just what he does, and you might hear our kids in the background.  But at the end of the day, he’s going to be focused on your question until he has an answer (trust me, it’s all I’ll hear about until it’s resolved).

So when you see on our website that we really appreciate your business, we mean it.  And if nothing else, I hope you come back to our site because I’m going to be posting my recipes on quite a few posts… and I make some pretty bomb meals.
