- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well until the apples are coated evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot with the small pieces of butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the apple filling. Trim any excess and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle the coarse sugar over it.
- Make four slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
